The short version
Bro: Focus Timer & App Blocker (“Bro”) does not collect your name, email or anything you do in the app. There is no account, no sign in, no ads, no usage analytics and no tracking. Everything you do in Bro is stored on your iPhone, and it is deleted when you delete the app. The one exception is purchases: to know whether you have Pro, the app checks with RevenueCat, a purchase service. That is explained under Purchases below.
What is stored on your phone
To work, Bro keeps these things in the app's own storage on your device:
- the name you give Bro to call you, and what you said you're focusing on
- your focus sessions: how long, when, and your totals and streaks
- Bro's followers, cash, awards, outfits and rooms
- any shirt photo you choose for Bro to wear
- your settings, like sounds, theme and reminders
A small part of this (Bro's follower count, today's focus minutes and goal, whether a session is running, and your room's colours) is shared with the Bro home screen widget on the same phone, so it can show Bro's state. None of it leaves your device.
Permissions
Bro only asks for a permission when you use the feature that needs it. You can say no, and you can change your mind any time in the iPhone Settings app.
- Screen Time: used only if you ask Bro to hold your distracting apps during a session. You choose the apps in Apple's own picker. Apple gives Bro anonymous tokens, not the names of the apps, and Bro cannot see how you use your phone. Bro unlocks them when you finish your session.
- Camera and Photos: used only when you take or choose a photo to print on Bro's shirt, or save a photo of Bro to your library. Photos stay on your phone.
- Notifications: used for reminders you set up, like a nudge to start your focus. They are scheduled on your phone. No server is involved.
Purchases
Bro's optional Pro subscription and lifetime purchase are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. Bro and its developer never receive your name, Apple ID, email or payment details.
To check your purchases and know whether Pro is on, Bro uses RevenueCat. The app checks with RevenueCat when it opens and when you buy or restore, and RevenueCat receives:
- a random app user ID that Bro makes up on your phone. It is not tied to your name, email or Apple ID.
- your purchase and transaction details from the App Store, like which plan, when it started and when it renews
- basic device and app information, like your iOS version, the app's version and your App Store country
- your IP address, as with any connection over the internet
This is used only to process and verify purchases and to give the developer totals like how many people subscribe. It is not used for ads or tracking, and it is not linked to who you are. The app also keeps a copy of your Pro status on the device, so Pro works offline. You can manage or cancel a subscription any time in your Apple ID settings, and Apple's own privacy policy covers the payment.
Sharing to Instagram
When you tap share to story, Bro makes an image of your results and hands it to the Instagram app on your phone through iOS. Bro does not send it anywhere itself. What happens after that is up to you and is covered by Instagram's own privacy policy.
Children
Bro doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. A purchase is checked as described under Purchases, with no name or email.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If Bro ever starts collecting more than what is described here, this page will say exactly what and why before it happens.
